ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) was created by the University ofLiverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China. Offering a unique international education experience,XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutions and gives students the skills and knowledge they needto secure careers in a global marketplace. XJTLU now has over 25,000 enrolled students in both Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans togrow to about 28,000 students by 2025. There are currently about 2,000 staff, among which about 1,000 academic staff, with an almost evensplit between citizens of the People’s Republic of China and international passport holders. XJTLU offers our undergraduates andpostgraduates over 100 programmes with a diverse spectrum of courses.

XJTLU is entering a new and exciting phase of its developmentas part of its strategic priorities for the next ten years. Adopting a new higher education model based on the concept of SyntegrativeEducation (SE), XJTLU is currently opening a new Entrepreneurial Education site in Taicang, part of wider Suzhou, where the EntrepreneurCollege (Taicang) is located. The Taicang site will be a pioneer of, and educational model for, the future campus in addressing challengesarising from the 4th Industrial Revolution. Other new initiatives include new working partnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, thecontinued development of the four new Academies, and exploration of further potential locations to develop the SE model.

With a focuson innovative learning and teaching, and research, XJTLU draws on the strengths of its parent universities, and plays a pivotal role infacilitating access to China for UK and other institutional partners. At same time, XJTLU is exploring future education by blending theeducational theory, best practice and culture from west and east.

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOLSUZHOU (IBSS)

 International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is growing insize and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading international business school. The school is based on strong principles ofinternationalism, innovation, inspiration and integrity, which together ensure that we have a positive impact on society through ourteaching, research and business engagement. In that pursuit, IBSS became the youngest business school to be accredited by the Association toAdvance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 2016, and again, the youngest School to receive EQUIS accreditation in 2018. Receivingjoint accreditation of AMBA and BGA in 2020, IBSS became the world‚Äôs 103rd triple accredited business school.

The fivedepartments of IBSS are Accounting, Economics, Finance, Intelligent Operations and Marketing, and Strategic Management and Organizationswith over 150 faculty members and more than 5,500 students from over 60 different countries. IBSS delivers a range of undergraduate,postgraduate, MBA, PhD and Executive Education programmes across all major business disciplines.

The Finance Department becomes anindependent academic unit at the beginning of the 2020/21 academic year, as a result of splitting the original Department of Accounting andFinance. At present, the Finance Department has a team of 25 academic staff, publishing in high-quality international journals in financeand other business fileds and also maintaining a balance of academic research and professional engagement. All of our finance facultymembers are PhD holders and some are affiliated with professional accounting and finance bodies such as the Certified Financial AnalystsInstitute (CFA) and CPA Australia. Members of the Department teach a spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Accounting,Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing, Financial Mathematics, and Financial Computing, etc. The Finance Department currently offers twoMSc programmes (MSc Finance, MSc Investment Management). The MSc Investment Management programme has received professional recognition fromthe Certified Financial Analysts Institute. In addition, a new MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation (FinTech Pathway) was launched in2022.

RESPONSIBILITIES

XJTLU is a research-led university. In this context, even though the workloadof faculty in IBSS is generally shared between teaching, research, and service, early-career faculty members are expected to spend themajority of their time on research, followed by teaching, then service. Research activities include the publication of research articles,attendance of international conferences, and applications for research funding. Research performance in the School is benchmarked oninternationally recognized lists of journal quality such as the Academic Journal Guide (UK) – a.k.a. the ABS list – and the ABDClist (Australia). The target levels on those lists are ABS3/ABDC-A or above. Other than Research track faculty, we also welcome applicationsfor Teaching and Practice track faculty positions.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

Successful applicantsto the position of Lecturers/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor are expected to have:

• A PhD degree in Finance or a relatedfield,
• Teaching experience in higher education,
• A proven record of academic publications in good journals, oralternatively, for early-career academics, a strong pipeline of promising research.

Successful applicants to more seniorprofessorial ranks are expected to also show:

• A significant record of high-quality academic publications,
• A number ofexternal research grants awards,
• Experience in PhD supervision.

DesirableQualifications/Experience

• Curriculum design and programme development experience,
• Teaching and/or researchinterest in finance, FinTech and/or data science
• Engagement with professional community,
• Professional qualifications(CFA/FRM and other equivalent finance qualifications).

Successful applicants to the Practice Track position (AssociateProfessor of Practice, Senior Associate Professor of Practice, Professor of Practice) are expected to have:

• A Master‚Äôsdegree (a PhD degree for more senior positions) in Finance or a related field,
• Highly recognized industry professional,
• Experience in development of and contributions to consultancy for business, government or international bodies,
• Development andsupport of practice-based initiatives for student engagement with

industry,

• Experience in securing industrialand/or government funding.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

• Contribution to practice-basedresearch,
• Contributions to professional publications,
• Engagement with local and national government.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated byChinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible forlegal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visain the P.R. China.

RESEARCH FUNDING SUPPORT

The university provides every new faculty members with Research Development Fundto encourage them to initiate research projects, and Research Engagement Fund provided to support their continuous researchactivities. 

The university will also support all faculty members to apply for national, province and city level programs. Theseprograms aim to support excellent scientists, both Chinese and non-Chinese-citizen, to work and carry out research in China. Some ofthe programs are listed in the table below.
