Position description
Provide visionary leadership to shape and execute a comprehensive career development strategy that empowers students from enrolment through graduation. Oversee and manage the services and activities of the Career and Learning Center, ensuring that outcomes are impactful and efficient. Support the collection and organisation of student data related to further studies and career outcomes, build robust alumni networks, and foster a culture of lifelong career readiness across the university.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop career development course plans and undertake the corresponding teaching responsibilities.
- Develop and implement a forward-thinking, data-driven strategic plan for the Career and Learning Center, aligned with the university’s overall mission and educational goals.
- Establish and maintain a “whole-person education” approach to career development, integrating career awareness and skill-building throughout the student journey from enrolment to graduation.
- Collaborate with academic departments and programmes, faculty, and senior administration to embed career competencies into the curriculum and co-curricular activities.
- Oversee the design and delivery of a comprehensive range of career services, including career counselling, job-search skills workshops covering CV writing, interviews and networking, internship programmes, and other relevant events.
- Direct specialised services for further studies, including graduate school application guidance, partnerships with international universities, and postgraduate education fairs.
- Engage alumni as mentors, speakers, and career advisers to build a vibrant and supportive community for current students.
- Use graduate programme application outcome data and labour market trends to inform strategy, assess programme effectiveness, and continuously improve services.
Required job specifications
- Education: A master’s degree or above is required; a PhD is preferred. A background in higher education administration, counselling, psychology, business, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- At least 5–8 years of progressive experience in career development, higher education, or corporate human resources/talent acquisition.
- At least 3–5 years of proven leadership experience managing a career or learning development centre, or a similar student services unit, within an educational institution.
- At least 3–5 years of experience working in a cross-cultural or international higher education environment.
- Experience in university-level teaching or curriculum development.
Required job competencies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- In-depth knowledge of the full spectrum of career services.
- Familiarity with global graduate school application processes.
- Proficiency in using labour market intelligence, graduate outcome data, and programme assessment metrics.
- Competence in designing and delivering career development courses and workshops.
- International work experience outside China.
- Certifications in career counselling or coaching are an advantage.
