1. Introduction to the Department

The Energy Research Institute of Peking University was established in May 2020. It is an entity research institute affiliated with the Earth and Space College. Guided by the strategic needs of national energy development and based on the overall situation and international frontier in the energy field, the Energy Research Institute is committed to building an energy think tank and an energy technology R&D and promotion platform with international standards. The main research directions of the institute include energy strategy and policy, smart energy, shale oil and gas, geothermal, new energy, and international cooperation in energy. The institute has initially formed disciplinary characteristics that combine both software and hardware. It has gradually built a research team composed of professors, researchers, part-time professors, distinguished researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and other young and middle-aged scholars, headed by Academician Jin Zhijun. The institute organizes activities such as the "Carbon Neutrality 3060" Forum and "Carbon Neutrality is the New Engine of China's Social and Economic Development" in response to climate change and has undertaken major consulting projects such as the "Strategic Research on Collaborative Governance of Energy, Environment, and Climate Change" for the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Since its launch in 2021, the major project led by Professor Jin Zhijun under the NSFC has achieved fruitful results in research on the reservoir, oil-bearing, movable, and compressible properties of continental shale oil in China. The Energy Research Institute has leveraged its extensive international contacts, carrying out project cooperation and establishing cooperation mechanisms with the International Energy Agency, the International Gas Alliance, Oxford University, Columbia University, Stanford University, ExxonMobil, Shell, and other internationally renowned institutions. The next steps for the Energy Research Institute will focus on attracting high-level talents, integrating resources with the university, recruiting postdoctoral talents in liberal arts, focusing on student and high-end talent training in the energy field, and further strengthening cooperation with local governments to achieve leapfrog development of the institute.

Job Responsibilities

• Engaged in cutting-edge scientific research in the field of energy, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence, energy storage, energy strategy and policy, smart oilfield, natural gas, carbon neutrality, and energy technology.

Qualifications

• Possess a Ph.D. degree in a related field.
• Research ability and work background in the relevant field as described in the job description.
• Research assistants should be no more than 35 years old.
