Introduction to the Department

The Department of Information Management at Peking University was originally founded in 1947 as the Department of Library Science. In 1987, it was renamed the Department of Library Science and Information Science, and in 1992, it became the Department of Information Management. In recent years, the department has fostered the cross-integration of four key majors: library science, editing and publishing, information science, and big data management and application, aiming to achieve innovative and collaborative development within the discipline.

The department offers three undergraduate majors:

1. Library Science
2. Information Management and Information Systems
3. Big Data Management and Application

Additionally, it provides four master's and doctoral degree programs:

1. Library Science
2. Editing and Publishing
3. Information Science
4. Big Data Management and Application

The department also operates a postdoctoral mobile station. With the support of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant bodies, the Publishing Research Institute of Peking University was established in 2022. This institute works closely with other research centers at Peking University, such as the Institute of Informatization and Human Information Behavior, the Research Center for Informatization and Information Management, the National Research Center for Modern Public Culture, and the Digital Humanities Research Center to support the department’s development.

By integrating resources and disciplines, the department is focusing on systemic and mechanistic reforms, building world-class disciplines with Chinese characteristics. Its development spans talent training, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation, faculty construction, and international cooperation and exchange.

Job Series: Teaching and Research Series

Job Responsibilities:

• Engage in teaching and research within the areas of library science, editing and publishing, information science, and big data management and application.

Qualifications:

1. A Ph.D. in library science, editing and publishing, information science, big data management and application, or a related field from a well-known university, either domestically or internationally.
2. Applicants for assistant professor and pre-appointed associate professor positions should generally be under 40 years old. For tenured associate professors and professors, the age requirement can be slightly relaxed.
