Job Description

Introduction to the Department

The Institute of Population Research at Peking University is a multidisciplinary research and teaching unit that combines expertise from the fields of arts, sciences, and medicine. The Institute offers an international master’s program in demography, aimed at training population science researchers and management professionals, especially for China and developing countries.

Currently, the Institute has a diverse student body, with 39 academic master’s students, 42 master’s students in social work, and 30 doctoral students, including 5 international students and 8 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The Institute offers more than 30 courses, with 11 taught in English for international students.

The Institute emphasizes the integration of scientific research with teaching and has led major national research projects, including the National 973 Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the National Social Science Foundation of China. It is home to various research centers and virtual institutions, including the Research Center for Chinese Population Health and Development, the China Research Center for Aging Development, and the China Career Development Research Center for the Disabled. The Institute also publishes the bimonthly journal "Population and Development".

  • Job Responsibilities:Conduct teaching and scientific research in the following areas:
  • Demography/Sociology (Gerontology): Population and health, population analysis methods, geriatrics, disabled population research, aging economics, geriatric health, geriatric sociology.
  • Political Economy/Population, Resources, and Environmental Economics: Population economics, business demography, population and sustainable development, health and environmental economics.
  • Social Work: Aging services, disability services, and management.
  • Qualifications:Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Generally not more than 40 years old.
  • Strong background in the field of study, with excellent scientific research achievements.
  • Strong communication, coordination, teaching, and research skills.
  • Experience in major project research is preferred.
  • Alignment with the development plan and key research areas of the discipline.
