Job Description
Introduction to the Department
The Department of Economics at Peking University has a long and distinguished history, dating back to 1902 when the Department of Commerce was established by Beijing Normal University Hall, the predecessor of Peking University. In 1912, Mr. Yan Fu, the president of National Peking University, established the Department of Economics, which was the first economics department at a Chinese university. The department was renamed the Department of Economics in 1919 under the leadership of Mr. Ma Yinchu. In 1985, Peking University established the School of Economics, the first school established by the university following China’s reform and opening-up. Today, the School of Economics is recognized as the “National Economics Basic Talent Training Base” and the “National Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Area” by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. With its long history, profound academic heritage, and innovative talent training model, the school attracts exceptional students from all over the world.
The discipline structure of the School of Economics integrates theoretical economics with applied economics, political economy with Western economics, and economic history with contemporary mainstream economics. The school has maintained its leading position in traditional disciplines while also developing emerging disciplines that align with the economic development and institutional changes in China and globally. Currently, the school offers seven departments and several academic and professional degree programs, including master’s and doctoral degrees in fields such as Political Economy, Western Economics, Economic History, Finance, and Risk Management and Insurance.
The faculty of the School of Economics is composed of more than 200 full-time teachers, part-time professors, and postdoctoral researchers, with scholars' research regularly published in top academic journals both in China and abroad. The school hosts numerous research centers and institutes, conducting a variety of impactful scientific research projects, including major projects funded by national, provincial, and international organizations.
Building on its academic achievements, the School of Economics continues to expand its domestic and international academic exchanges and hosts several high-end academic forums, promoting global academic collaboration. - Job Responsibilities:Teach courses at a high level in major economics fields, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs.
- Cultivate innovative talents and guide postdoctoral researchers and visiting scholars.
- Publish cutting-edge scientific research in core academic journals, monographs, or other impactful forms.
- Lead or participate in national, provincial, and ministerial-level research projects.
