Job Description
Introduction to the Department
The School of International Studies (SIS) at Peking University is the first institution among ordinary Chinese universities dedicated to international relations. The school is committed to nurturing talents specializing in international issues, producing high-level professionals engaged in foreign affairs, and fostering interdisciplinary talents with a global vision, Chinese commitment, and the ability to adapt to diverse societal needs. The faculty consists of six departments and three research institutes:
- Departments: International Politics, Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Management, International Political Economy, Comparative Politics, International Organizations and International Public Policy, and National Security.
- Research Institutes: Institute of International Relations, Institute of Asian and African Studies, and Institute of World Socialism.
At the undergraduate level, the school offers two primary majors: International Politics (including International Political Economy, International Organizations, and International Public Policy) and Diplomacy. Additionally, an interdisciplinary joint training program in International Politics and International Finance is available. Both International Politics and Diplomacy are recognized as national first-class undergraduate majors. At the graduate level, the school offers 8 academic master’s programs, including International Politics, International Relations, Diplomacy, International Political Economy, Comparative Politics, History of the Communist Party of China, Scientific Socialism and the International Communist Movement, and International Public Policy. At the doctoral level, there are seven specializations, and two of these disciplines—International Politics and Scientific Socialism and the International Communist Movement—are national key disciplines. Additionally, a postdoctoral research station in political science is co-hosted with the School of Government and the School of Marxism of Peking University.
The school is known for its high level of international education and international cooperation. It maintains academic exchange programs with over 20 top universities globally, including institutions like the London School of Economics (UK), Sciences Po (France), the University of Tokyo (Japan), and Waseda University (Japan). In addition, SIS organizes various high-end international academic forums, such as the Peking University-Harvard Sino-US Relations Seminar and the Peking University-Princeton-University of Tokyo-Korea University-National University of Singapore Five-University Conference.

Job Series: Teaching and Research Series
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in the areas of international political economy, national security, diplomacy and Chinese diplomacy, history of international relations, international relations theory, Chinese politics and diplomacy (Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao), international political theory, Asian and African regional studies, history of Chinese and foreign political thought, world politics, global health governance, and socialism (European left-wing parties).
- Engage in long-term research in the field of international relations, and contribute to the leading academic research in this field, both domestically and internationally.
- Be capable of independently teaching at least one compulsory undergraduate course related to international relations.
- Hold a Ph.D. in political science or international relations from a prestigious university (domestic or international).
- Applicants for the Asian-African regional country research position must be proficient in languages such as Korean, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Russian, French, in addition to English, and should have fieldwork experience in the region of focus. A foundation in the local language is preferred.
- Candidates should possess a strong sense of responsibility, good health, and a cooperative spirit.
