Job Description

Introduction to the Department

Peking University is renowned as the "cradle of journalism and journalism education in China." The university’s commitment to journalism education began in 1918 with the establishment of the Peking University Journalism Research Association, chaired by Cai Yuanpei. This marked the beginning of formal journalism education in China and the birth of the country's journalism discipline. Esteemed scholars such as Xu Baohuang, Shao Piaoping, and Li Dazhao contributed lectures to the association, which played a pivotal role in cultivating prominent journalism professionals in China, including Mao Zedong and Gao Junyu, who received formal journalism training.

In 2001, Peking University revived the establishment of the School of Journalism and Communication, gradually developing a research, teaching, and talent cultivation model in journalism and communication that reflects the university's unique characteristics. This model adapts to the evolving needs of society and aligns with international trends.

The Department of Journalism and Communication at Peking University is recognized as a double-first-class discipline. The department has consistently ranked among the top in the QS Global Rankings for Communication and Media Studies, maintaining a leading position in China and being ranked within the top 50 worldwide in 2023. In Times Higher Education's China Subject Ratings, the department has been rated as an A+ subject, holding the top spot in China for many years.

The department offers a doctoral program in journalism and communication and has postdoctoral opportunities in communication and journalism. Additionally, the department houses some of the country's most prestigious undergraduate programs, including the national first-class journalism major, advertising major, and the radio and television major in Beijing.
