Job Description
The University of Lancashire invites applications from qualified English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturers to teach on its International Foundation Year programme at the HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries during the 2026–2027 academic year.
The International Foundation Year delivers credit-bearing English for Academic Purposes modules as an integral part of the four-year undergraduate degree pathway. The programme is designed to equip students with the academic English skills required to succeed in their degree studies.
The School is also expanding English language provision within undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to further support students’ academic development beyond Year 1.
About HBU-UCLan
HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries is a Sino-foreign joint school partnership between Hebei University, China, and the University of Lancashire, UK, approved by the Ministry of Education of China.
Located in the historic city of Baoding, approximately 40 minutes from Beijing by high-speed rail, the city is rapidly developing as an emerging commuter hub for Beijing and northern Hebei Province.
Established in 2014, the Joint School celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024. As of March 2026, HBU-UCLan has approximately 800 students, with projected growth to 1,200 students in the coming years.
Students are enrolled in the following University of Lancashire programmes:
- International Foundation Year
- BA (Hons) Animation
- BA (Hons) Creative Advertising
- BA (Hons) Filmmaking
- BA (Hons) Graphic Design
- BA (Hons) Interior Design
- BA (Hons) Media and Television Production
Postgraduate programmes currently offered include:
- MA Interior Design
- MA Music Industry Management & Promotion
- MA Animation (subject to validation, planned launch September 2027)
The Joint School moved into a purpose-built Arts, Design and Media building in 2022, providing industry-standard teaching, research, and practice facilities.
The Role
The International Foundation Year modules are delivered over two semesters by a core team of EAP and TESOL specialist lecturers.
As an EAP Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering:
- Academic Literacy
- Language Proficiency
- English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP)
You will teach first-year students studying across design and media disciplines and provide additional in-sessional academic language support to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
This is a full-time teaching role involving up to 18 hours of face-to-face teaching per week.

Education, Qualifications & Experience
- A good honours degree (or equivalent) in English, Arts and Media, or a related discipline
- A Master’s degree in EAP, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field
- A relevant teaching qualification such as CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent
- Substantial EAP teaching experience in an academic environment
- Experience designing and developing teaching and learning resources
- A minimum of two years’ experience teaching English for Academic Purposes and/or English for Specific Purposes at university or foundation level (required for visa eligibility)

Visa Requirements
This role is subject to Chinese Labour Law and Hebei Provincial Government regulations.
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
- A minimum of two years’ relevant teaching experience is required for work visa eligibility
- Applicants must be native-level English speakers and hold citizenship from one of the following countries:
- United Kingdom
- Ireland
- United States
- Canada
- Australia
- New Zealand
- India
- South Africa
- Successful candidates must complete a criminal record check and health check to obtain a Chinese work permit and Z visa
- Provincial regulations may restrict work visa eligibility for applicants aged 60 or above
