The School of Education and English at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China is now seeking an exceptional teacher trainer and scholar as Director of the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) programme.
School of Education and English (EDEN)
The School of Education and English (EDEN) at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China, is now seeking an exceptional teacher trainer and scholar to join us in February 2026 as Director of the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) programme.
About our School/Department
The PGCHE programme is housed within EDEN where tri-campus schools in China, the UK, and Malaysia are brought together, providing the opportunities, expertise and collective skills for our academics to work collaboratively on a range of programmes and projects involving Applied Linguistics, International Higher Education, Translation and Interpreting, Cognitive Neuroscience, Literature and Drama, as well as other fields.
The School of Education and English is a research-active unit enhanced by state-of-the-art laboratories, research centres, and experienced academics who are highly influential in their fields. Our diverse and inclusive environment enables pioneering research in areas such as:

About the Role
The Academic Director of the PGCHE programme is responsible for the management of modules needed by new academics across Faculties for qualification/accreditation to teach in the UK higher education system. The programme and material for the teaching and assessment are delivered by the Academic Director.
PGCHE is accredited by Advance HE, and those who complete the course will be awarded Associate Fellow or Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
Additionally, the Academic Director will be responsible for:
- Developing bespoke teacher training workshops and programmes for local educators, expanding nationally and internationally.
- Establishing UNNC as a leader in global teacher training and professional development.
- Seeking grants and leading research projects in teacher training and professional development.
- Contributing to Faculty of Humanities and Social Science (FHSS) Area Studies research initiatives.
- Collaborating with UNNC’s UNESCO Office and the University of Nottingham UK’s UNESCO Chair.
About You
Candidates must:
- Have completed a doctoral degree in education, language education, teacher education, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field.
- Hold Higher Education Academy (HEA) Senior Fellow status (or higher).
- Have recent experience developing and delivering teacher training and professional development workshops and programmes.
- Demonstrate excellence in higher education administration.
- Possess a strong record of global research and grant capture in teacher training and professional development.
The advertised position will be filled at an appropriate point on the Associate Professor level salary scale based on prior experience and current academic rank.
