Introduction to the Department

The discipline of Economic Management at Peking University has a rich history, beginning with the establishment of the business department at Beijing Normal University in 1902, which was the first business department in China’s higher education institutions. With the opening-up and economic development of the People's Republic of China, Peking University established the Department of Economics and Management in 1985. In 1993, the Department of Economics and Management merged with the Center for Management Science to form the School of Business Administration, which was officially renamed the Guanghua School of Management in 1994.

As the flagship institution for business administration education at Peking University, Guanghua School of Management has become one of the top business schools in the Asia-Pacific region. Adhering to Peking University’s century-old tradition and mission of "creating management knowledge, cultivating business leaders, and promoting social progress," Guanghua has thrived under the leadership of figures such as Li Yining and Liu Qiao. The school has rapidly developed into a leader in both China and Asia, establishing itself as a beacon of business education and fostering a unique academic spirit rooted in Peking University's independent thinking.

Over the past 40 years, Guanghua has built a complete academic structure, assembled a first-class faculty, and developed a rich teaching system.
