1. Introduction to the Department

Peking University was the first institution in China to establish a teaching and research institute for archaeology. The School of Archaeology and Museums comprises the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Cultural Heritage, and it includes the National Center for Archaeological Experimental Practice, the National Center for Archaeological Virtual Simulation Experiments, the Key Laboratory of Archaeological Science of the Ministry of Education (Peking University), and the Arthur M. Sackler Museum of Archaeology and Art at Peking University.

The school offers five undergraduate majors:

  • Archaeology
  • Cultural Relics and Museology
  • Cultural Relics Protection Technology
  • Archaeology (Cultural Relics and Architecture)
  • Foreign Chinese and Foreign History (Archaeology)

The school also offers a first-level doctoral degree in archaeology and has a postdoctoral mobile station in archaeology. It encompasses graduate majors in archaeology, cultural relics, and museums, with a focus on various research directions such as:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and research in Buddhist archaeology.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Good political quality and moral level, decent style, and teamwork spirit.
  • Broad knowledge structure, capable of interdisciplinary or interprofessional teaching and scientific research.
  • Proficient in archaeological research methods for cave temples and rich experience in the excavation of Buddhist temple sites.
  • Experience in compiling archaeological excavation reports (briefings) for cave temples.
  • High-level publications in core journals at home and abroad or involvement in high-level research projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and research in foreign archaeology.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Good political quality and moral level, decent style, and teamwork spirit.
  • Broad knowledge structure, capable of interdisciplinary or interprofessional teaching and scientific research.
  • Proficient in English, French, or South Asian/Southeast Asian languages, able to teach in English and supervise students' dissertations.
  • Capable of independently completing the teaching tasks of courses like "South Asian Archaeology" and "Southeast Asian Archaeology" (general theory courses).
  • High-level publications or involvement in high-level research projects in core journals at home and abroad.
  • Doctoral degree from an overseas institution or long-term archaeological work experience abroad or rich field archaeology experience abroad.
  • Age: 45 years old and below.

  • Rich practical experience in field archaeology and proficient use of scientific and technological archaeological methods for excavation and research.
  • High-level publications or involvement in high-level research projects in core journals at home and abroad.
  • Age: 45 years old and below.

3. Application Materials

Candidates should submit the following documents:

  1. Individual Application Form (specifying the position to be applied for and the expected time of joining the school).
  2. Detailed Curriculum Vitae (including educational and work experience, teaching and research statements, etc.).
  3. Proof of Academic Qualifications and Degrees (for degrees obtained from foreign institutions, submit the Certificate of Foreign Academic Degree issued by the Service Center for Scholarly Study of the Ministry of Education).
  4. List of Published Papers (including 5 representative papers).
  5. Personal Academic Work Plan for the next 3-5 years.
