Introduction to the Department

Peking University is the birthplace of Marxism in China, the earliest activity base of the Communist Party of China, and the home of Marxist theoretical education in China. As early as the early 20th century, Li Dazhao and other teachers and students at Peking University began to study and spread Marxism, making Peking University a center for ideological change and development. In 1992, the School of Marxism was established, marking it as the first Marxist school in China. This important institution was recognized in 2016 as one of the first "National Key Marxist Colleges" by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Ministry of Education. The Marxist Theory discipline at Peking University was named as a National "Double First-Class" Construction Discipline in 2017. Additionally, in 2018, Peking University established the Institute of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, which works in tandem with the School of Marxism to foster theoretical research and development.

In recent years, the School of Marxism has entered a phase of rapid growth, setting the goal of becoming a global Marxist academic center. It also strives to establish itself as a talent highland and a communication hub for Marxist thought. The college is dedicated to innovating Marxist theory and advancing ideological and political education reforms, and invites distinguished talents from around the world to contribute to this important cause.
