Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and is the first legally independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”.

With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies. It aims to serve as a role model for Mainland–Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-renowned high-level university dedicated to nurturing future-oriented, innovative, and high-level talents.

In response to the increasingly complex challenges faced by a rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” in place of the conventional “School” and “Department,” facilitating cross-disciplinary integration and promoting the development of emerging and frontier disciplines. This represents a groundbreaking move in global higher education.

HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs—Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, and Society Hub—and 16 Thrusts. Undergraduate admissions began in 2023, with the first batch of programs covering artificial intelligence, data science and big data technology, and smart manufacturing engineering.

The Financial Technology Thrust of the Society Hub invites applications for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor) in all areas of FinTech. Qualification of Candidates

We seek talents conducting cutting-edge research in FinTech. Applicants must have a PhD degree in FinTech or related fields, including (but not limited to) Computational Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Financial Engineering, Information Systems, Machine Learning, Mathematical Finance, Operations Research, Optimization, Probability, and Statistics.

Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

• Blockchain technologies, smart contracts, and digital currencies
• Robo-advising, quantitative investing, and risk management
• Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics in finance
• Technological innovations for financial services
• Regulatory issues and challenges in FinTech
• Digital economy and financial inclusion

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

• Highly competitive salary

• Appointment at Professor rank is substantive
• Appointment at Associate Professor rank may be with or without substantiation
• Initial appointment for Assistant Professor and non-substantiated Associate Professor is normally a three-year renewable contract
