Position Overview
The accountant ensures the accurate, transparent, and compliant financial management of the Duke Kunshan University Education Development Foundation. The accountant oversees day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, bookkeeping, fund accounting, donor-restricted funds tracking, payroll-related filings (including social security), organizational tax filings, procurement, and compliance with regulatory, audit, and internal governance requirements.

Essential Duties
Financial Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Reporting
- Maintain the general ledger, journals, and subsidiary ledgers.
- Be responsible for all the work related to donation receipts.
- Ensure accurate classification of expenditures, revenues, and fund transfers.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and periodic financial reports to meet different needs of, including but not limited to, the Foundation Board Meeting, government authorities, and other parties.
- Ensure compliance to the relevant accounting principles and regulations.
- Maintain orderly and secure digital and physical financial records.
Donor and Fund Accounting
- Track donated funds, endowments, and project-specific grants in Salesforce.
- Ensure compliance with donor agreements and reporting requirements.
- Support preparation of financial sections of donor reports.
Compliance, Audit & Controls
- Review expense reports of project expenditures and other expenses.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax rules, and university/foundation policies.
- Lead different kinds of audits carried out by internal and external bodies.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support strengthening of internal controls and risk management.
Essential Duties
Other
- Manage bank accounts and various payment channels including but not limited to AliPay and WeChat Pay.
- Handle periodical and annual tax filing timely and accurately.
- Support social security & payroll-related filings.
- Monitor tax law changes affecting the foundation.
- Coordinate foundation procurement processes: prepare purchase requisitions, liaise with vendors, and follow up with the procurement office.
- Optimize accounting processes and use of financial systems/software.
- Work toward achieving assigned annual objectives and KPIs, demonstrating accountability for performance and results.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, etc.) is an asset.
- 2–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a foundation, NGO, or educational institution.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting requirements in China.
- Proficiency with accounting software (experience with Oracle Fusion and Salesforce is a plus).
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, good English skills.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated organizational skills.
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility with high integrity, confidentiality, and attention to details.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Years of Related Working Experience
2–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a foundation, NGO, or educational institution.
