ABOUT STUDENT COUNSELLING CENTRE
The Student Counselling Centre (SCC) seeks to work collaboratively across the university to provide care, support and education to individuals who are experiencing some level of distress in their lives. SCC is committed to helping maintain a safe, equal, diverse, and harmonious environment in the university community. Our goals include:
• Provide professional mental health services for students to support the overall mission of SAO and ensure five-star educational model of XJTLU
• Respond as quickly and efficiently as possible to the student’s expressed need
• Collaborate with the student to create and implement a plan that allows for increased perspective, growth and a return to a level of functioning most likely to promote success at XJTLU
• Ensure that the diverse needs of the students are met by SCC through its counselling, training, research, workshops and outreach programs.
• Offer opportunities for professional development of staff core competencies focused on the clinical and developmental needs of emerging adults in a multicultural environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
• To provide individual counselling, group counselling, family interview, risk assessment and crisis intervention
• To provide consultation services, as requested, to students, faculty, and staff within the university
• To participate in service evaluation activities
• To assist Student Counselling Center’s daily operation including documentation work, case study and so on
• To liaise with academic department and teaching centers to establish collaboration mechanism and system to provide satisfying community and supports for students where necessary
• To perform other assigned functions that contribute to the service of the center, liaison with academic or administrative units, and participation in university program development
Essential Qualification:
Education Background
• Master’s degree in Applied Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, or other closely related disciplines
Work Experience
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a staff member in a clinical and/or counselling setting
• Minimum of 500 hours of previous experience as a counsellor in a clinical and/or counselling setting
Professional Skills and Knowledge
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities in psychological assessment, theories of personality, abnormal psychology/psychopathology, human development, learning theory, counselling theory, and/or other appropriate subjects
• Knowledge of principles of program development, consultation, outreach, developmental theories, and ability to understand the individual in the context of a diverse social and cultural milieu
• Highly motivated and professionally committed, and willing to work on weekends and even on holidays when necessary
• Excellent communication, coordination and presentation skills
• Highly proficient IT skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, Access), Outlook, worldwide web, databases, spreadsheets and PowerPoint
• Ability to work on a variety of tasks at the same time, and to organize and prioritize them, including coping with unpredictable volumes of work and busy periods
• Dependability, reliability and ability to produce work of high quality
Professional Certification
One of the following is required:
• National Level 2 Psychological Counsellor (China)
• Registered Psychologist of the Chinese Psychological Society (CPS)
• For overseas practice, appropriate state or provincial licensure or professional certification
Desirable Qualification:
Education Background
• Master’s or doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, School Counselling, etc.
Work Experience
• Experience in providing clinical assessment and crisis intervention; experience working with a college-age population is preferred
• Clinical counselling experience in a medical setting or background in psychiatric work is preferred
Professional Certification
• Registered Psychologist or Supervisor qualification of the Chinese Psychological Society (CPS) is preferred
