Harbin Institute of Technology is affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Its main campus is located at No. 92 West Dazhi Street in the Nangang District of Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, with additional campuses in Weihai (Shandong Province) and Shenzhen (Guangdong Province). Founded in 1920, it was designated in 1951 as one of two national model universities for learning from foreign higher education practices. In 1954, it became one of the first six universities to receive key support from the state, earning it the reputation as the “Cradle of Engineers.” In 1996, the university was among the first to join the “211 Project,” and in 1999, it was selected as one of the nine universities in the initial cohort of the “985 Project.” In 2000, Harbin Institute of Technology merged with Harbin University of Architecture, which shared the same roots, to establish the new Harbin Institute of Technology. In 2017, it was listed among the Class A institutions in the national “Double First-Class” initiative, and in 2022, eight of its disciplines were selected for the new round of “Double First-Class” construction.
