Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model for mainland–Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university dedicated to nurturing future-oriented, innovative talents.

In response to the increasingly complex challenges presented by a rapidly changing world, HKUST(GZ) adopts a brand-new, cross-disciplinary academic structure featuring “Hub” and “Thrust” in place of the traditional “School” and “Department,” enabling cross-disciplinary integration and vigorous development of emerging disciplines. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs—Function Hub, Information Hub, Systems Hub, Society Hub—and sixteen Thrusts. At steady state, HKUST(GZ) will consist of 800 faculty members, 4,000 undergraduates, and 6,000 postgraduates.

About Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust

The Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust (https://dsa.hkust-gz.edu.cn/), an academic department under the Information Hub at HKUST(GZ), invites applications for multiple tenure-track and tenured faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor). The DSA Thrust advances data science and analytics by unifying statistics, machine learning, optimization, computer science, and related techniques. It also expands the applications of data science and analytics to solve real-world problems and to benefit society.

DSA Thrust welcomes applicants with research interests in (including but not limited to):

• Data-driven AI & Machine Learning
• Statistical Learning and Modeling
• Industrial and Business Analytics
• Sector-Specific Data Analytics
• Data Visualization and Infographics
• High-Performance Systems for Data Analytics

Qualification of Candidates

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more areas related to the Thrust.

• Assistant Professor (Tenure-track): Strong research and teaching potential.
• Associate Professor: Proven record in research, teaching, student supervision, and securing funding.
• Professor: World-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established record of excellence in teaching, student supervision, and funding.

All posts are tenure-track appointments in the Chinese mainland and offered by HKUST(GZ) in accordance with local employment laws and regulations. Appointment to Professor rank and some Associate Professor positions will be on a substantive basis with tenure. Initial appointments for other tenure-track ranks will be based on a fixed-term contract of up to six years.
