Job Description

The Laboratory of Cell Fate Control at Westlake University invites candidates for Research Professor and Research Assistant Positions in the Laboratory of cell fate control .

Prof. Pei’s primary interest is to understand cell fate control. His lab pioneered cellular reprogramming early. Using reprogramming as a paradigm, he discovered:

  • Vitamin C as an epigenetic regulator that enhances cellular reprogramming through histone and DNA demethylations;
  • Epithelial to mesenchymal (EMT) and mesenchymal to epithelial (MET) transitions as drivers for iPSC generation;
  • Urine epithelial cells as a source of starting cells for reprogramming.

He has proposed a chromatin open-close binary logic for cell fate control and a conceptual interface between pluripotent and somatic states. These concepts are still driving current works in the lab.

1. Job Openings

(1) Position Type: Research Professor Series
Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, Research Professor

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Engineering, or other STEM fields;
  • Previous postdoc experience is required;
  • Strong interest in cell fate control, regardless of previous experiences;
  • Experience with grant writing or patent application;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment;
  • Excellent English speaking skills and manuscript writing skills;
  • Demonstrate passion and commitment towards research work; able to independently conduct research and supervise graduate students and other lab members.

(2) Position Type: Research Assistant (2 openings)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Purchase and maintain lab equipment; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair;
  • Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt of supplies;
  • Reimbursement of lab expenses;
  • Assist with grant applications;
  • Package receiving and sending;
  • Assist with lab members’ projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Engineering, or other STEM fields;
  • Strong interest in cell fate control, regardless of previous experiences;
  • Experience with grant writing or patent application is a plus.
