ABOUT XJTLU

In 2006 Xi’an Jiaotong-LiverpoolUniversity (XJTLU) was created by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University – a top ten university in China.Offering a unique international education experience, XJTLU brings together excellent research practice and expertise from both institutionsand gives students the skills and knowledge they need to secure careers in a global marketplace. XJTLU now has over 25,000 enrolled studentsin both Suzhou and Liverpool in the UK, with plans to grow to about 28,000 students by 2025. XJTLU offers our undergraduates and postgraduates over 100 programmes with a diverse spectrum of courses.XJTLU isentering a new and exciting phase of its development as part of its strategic priorities for the next ten years. Adopting a new highereducation model based on the concept of Syntegrative Education (SE), XJTLU is currently opening a new Entrepreneurial Education site inTaicang, part of wider Suzhou, where the Entrepreneur College (Taicang) is located. The Taicang site will be a pioneer of, and educationalmodel for, the future campus in addressing challenges arising from the 4th Industrial Revolution. Other new initiatives include new workingpartnerships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, the continued development of the four new Academies, and exploration of further potentiallocations to develop the SE model.With a focus on innovative learning and teaching, and research, XJTLU draws on the strengths of its parentuniversities, and plays a pivotal role in facilitating access to China for UK and other institutional partners. At same time, XJTLU isexploring future education by blending the educational theory, best practice and culture from west and east.

ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF FOUNDATIONAL MATHEMATICS

The Department of Foundational Mathematics is responsible for thedelivery of mathematics teaching to Year 1 students. The Department has formed a highly professional team of teaching staff which consistsof well-trained PhD’s from Western and Chinese first-rate universities, and some renowned senior professors with rich teachingexperience. The Department of Foundational Mathematics invites strong applications for these positions to begin as soon as possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for future colleagues who can

1. Deliver lectures of Calculus, LinearAlgebra, Statistics and mathematical modelling in English to UG Year 1 students.

2. Undertake appropriate research, includingscientific research in mathematical sciences and pedagogical research in the teaching of university mathematics.

3. Provideadministrative service to the department and university committees.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:Preference will be given to applicants who have shown outstanding promise in research and teaching.It is important to note that a successful applicant must be able to teach in English as XJTLU’s working and instructional language isEnglish.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: 

• A PhD degree in mathematics or a closely aligneddiscipline is required.

• Ideally few years of teaching/research experience at a university or equivalent after completion ofPhD degree.

• Publications record in an area of expertise.

• Good communication skills and strong team player.

• High sense of responsibility.• Fluency in English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: 

• Strong knowledge/experience in international higher education.

RESEARCHFUNDING SUPPORT

The university provides every new faculty members with Research Development Fund to encourage them toinitiate research projects, and Research Engagement Fund provided to support their continuous research activities. 

Theuniversity will also support all faculty members to apply for national, province and city level programs. These programs aim to supportexcellent scientists, both Chinese and non-Chinese-citizen, to work and carry out research in China. Some of the programs are listed inthe table below.
