University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor in Applied Psychology.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor in Applied Psychology.

The University is undertaking the exciting process of establishing Psychology at UNNC. This is a new discipline within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, related to existing disciplines such as psycholinguistics and health economics. We are looking for an ambitious and talented academic leader to lead this initiative.

The successful candidate will be the first leader of the Psychology discipline at UNNC, and will pioneer the development of Psychology programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will lead a growing team, contribute to curriculum development, collaborate in research projects, and conduct ongoing original research and publications in Psychology.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide academic and organisational leadership in Psychology, including coordinating resources, managing teamwork, and setting team objectives.
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of Psychology modules and programmes, aligned with academic quality standards.
  • Undertake administrative responsibilities such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, and represent the School in internal and external committees.
  • Act as Principal Investigator on major research projects, devise new research methods, and contribute to advancing the field of Psychology.
  • Apply research to public policy or industry, bringing tangible benefits to the University and community.

About You

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and management skills in teaching and research contexts.
  • Demonstrated success in research funding acquisition and team development.
  • High-level analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Strong record of published research, programme development, and consultancy or external services.
  • Established reputation nationally and growing international reputation in Psychology within higher education.
  • Experience supervising PhD and Masters students and teaching at UG/PG levels in English-speaking institutions.
  • Previous leadership experience in higher education is highly desirable.

Remuneration, Benefits, and Support

  • Fixed-term contract for up to 5 years (renewable by mutual agreement).
  • Salary: RMB 628,750 to RMB 772,893 per annum (salary progression subject to performance).
  • Benefits: accommodation allowance, insurance, schooling support, home flight, relocation & repatriation support, paid annual leave.
