About the University

Founded in 2006 by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, XJTLU offers an international education experience combining top research and teaching from both institutions. It hosts over 25,000 students across Suzhou and Liverpool and around 2,000 staff. XJTLU offers 100+ undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Vision: To lead future employment trends in arts and digital media by nurturing talent in digital content production.

Mission: Delivering exceptional training in film, TV arts, gaming, internet media, digital performance, cultural tourism, and other creative technologies.

Objectives:

• Develop and implement innovative educational programs in creative technology.
• Lead the academy in the creation and production of digital content.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCES

• A PhD or MFA in Game Design and Development, Digital Media Arts, Digital Media Technology, Digital Creativity, or a closely related field. Candidates with an MFA must possess demonstrable experience in the industry, showcasing a portfolio of work that reflects their expertise.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a background in teaching, particularly those who have contributed to the development of curriculum and educational materials in their field. Proficiency in game design software and tools, as well as a strong understanding of programming languages commonly used in game development (e.g., C++, C#, Unity, Unreal Engine).
• PhD supervision capacity;
• Excellent publications record in an area of expertise;
• Evidence of success in obtaining research grants;
• Fluency in English.

Successful applicants to more senior professorial ranks are expected to also show:

• A significant record of high-quality academic publications;
• A number of external research grant awards;
• Experience in PhD supervision.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

• Strong knowledge / experience in international higher education;

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS

• Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government.
• These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
• Please be advised candidates over 65 may not be eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications

Location: Taicang and Suzhou Industrial Park, Suzhou, China

Contract Type: Fixed-term, renewable; third contract is open-ended
