Position Overview
Duke Kunshan University seeks to hire a full-time doctoral research fellow to work at an innovative Global Health Research Center established by Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, China. The Global Health Research Center was established in 2013 and co-founded by Duke Kunshan University and the Duke Global Health Institute. The mission is to improve health and promote health equity in China and globally. Through conducting high-quality research, the Center aims to provide policy recommendations, explore innovative solutions to national and global health challenges and support national goals set by policies such as Healthy China 2030.
Duke Kunshan University is a partnership of Duke University, Wuhan University and the Municipality of Kunshan, China. The Duke Kunshan University campus is located 37 miles west of Shanghai in Kunshan, which is connected to Shanghai via a 15-minute high-speed train. This position is located in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, China.

Prof. Shenglan Tang, Mary & James Semans Professor of Medicine and Global Health, Duke and Duke Kunshan University
Essential Duties
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on climate change and its impact on health and healthcare in general, and infectious diseases in particular, through empirical studies and/or analysis of quantitative data and modeling.
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to the development of new research proposals and grant applications.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, including scientists from other centers at DKU and other institutions, particularly Duke University in the USA, Wuhan University in China, and Duke-NUS in Singapore.
- Contribute to strengthening global and domestic partnerships in climate change and health research, education, training, knowledge translation, and practice.
- Participate in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
- Perform any other research-related tasks required by the supervisor.
- University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong analytical skills, including experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python) and climate/disease control related models.
- Proven ability to publish research in high-impact scientific journals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience in interdisciplinary research is preferred.
- Familiarity with global climate models and climate data analysis tools is desirable.
Education
A Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Public Health, Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Geography, or a closely related field.
Years of Related Working Experience
2–3 years of working/research experience in the area of climate change and health.
