The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a public research university founded in 1991 and located in Clear Water Bay, Hong Kong. Its work spans science, engineering, business and management, humanities and social science, medicine and interdisciplinary studies, delivered through six schools and academies: the School of Science, the School of Engineering, the School of Business and Management, the School of Humanities and Social Science, the School of Medicine and the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Research and teaching at HKUST are organised around these disciplinary pillars, with the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies dedicated to work that crosses traditional field boundaries. The university describes itself as a hub for cutting-edge research and for preparing graduates for future-facing roles. Its strategic plan places emphasis on sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship, and it maintains an entrepreneurial ecosystem intended to support innovation on and around campus.
