NingboTech University, established in June 2001, was renamed from Zhejiang University Ningbo Institute of Technology (ZJUNIT) to its current name in January 2020. It is a full-time public university governed by the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, founded by the Ningbo Municipal People’s Government, and supported by Zhejiang University (ZJU), with the approval of the Ministry of Education (MoE). With a philosophy of “Education for students’ development,” NingboTech is committed to cultivating high-quality, creative talents who are well-rounded, with strong humanistic values and scientific literacy. The university strives to be ranked among “First Class Universities in Zhejiang and Top 100 in China” and is continuously working towards becoming a high-level application-oriented institution.
Located in the Ningbo Higher Education Park, the university occupies approximately 75 hectares and boasts modern teaching and experimental facilities, including 64 advanced laboratories. NingboTech and ZJU benefit from a robust digital infrastructure, with dedicated optical fiber providing gigabit bandwidth for shared resources. The university’s library spans 2 hectares and houses over 1.62 million books.
NingboTech places a strong emphasis on talent development. 38.58% of its full-time faculty members hold associate professor ranks or higher, and 72.11% have doctoral degrees. Among its faculty, one is a national academician, and 245 are recognized for their achievements in talent projects at or above the municipal level. The university also has 195 master’s supervisors, including 20 doctoral supervisors. The Advisory and Steering Committees for various majors consist of professors, experts, and senior executives from Zhejiang University, government sectors, and leading companies.
The university has established a comprehensive talent cultivation system, prioritizing undergraduate education while also offering graduate, adult, and continuing education programs. Over the years, it has developed a disciplinary and major system that emphasizes engineering and supports the coordinated growth of science, liberal arts, law, economics, and management.
NingboTech also places great importance on serving society, forming a social service system that integrates government, industry, academia, and research institutes, with both local and national orientations. It has established extensive collaborations with local governments, enterprises, and government-affiliated institutions, creating 29 research institutes at various levels. The university also runs Schools of Adult Education and Continuing Education, offering undergraduate, junior college, and non-degree training programs. Additionally, in partnership with the Organization Department of the CPC Ningbo Municipal Party Committee and other entities, NingboTech has created the Ningbo Managers’ Academy. Through this initiative, it has conducted training programs for CEOs and senior executives from major enterprises, training over 7,000 business leaders.
