Job Description
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) invites candidates for faculty positions in computational media and arts.
About HKUST (Guangzhou)
Formally established in June 2022, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and is the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”.
The campus is located at No.1 Duxue Road, Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou, covering approximately 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares). The first phase of construction, comprising 716 mu (47.7 hectares) and 636,000 square meters of building area, was officially launched in September 2022.

Faculty Positions in Computational Media and Arts (CMA)
HKUST invites applications for multiple faculty positions (all ranks) in Computational Media and Arts (CMA) at its Guangzhou campus. The CMA Thrust focuses on artistic research and practice using emerging technologies and currently offers M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. More information is available at https://cma.hkust-gz.edu.cn.
Research and Teaching Areas
Applicants should have an interdisciplinary background, and contribute to a creativity-driven curriculum. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Augmented/Virtual/Mixed Reality (VR, AR, XR)
- Interactive Media and Games
- Computer Graphics and 3D Animation
- Human-Computer/Human-Robot/Human-AI Interaction
- Data, AI and Machine Learning for Arts
- Image and Audio Processing
- Physical Computing, Electronics, and Robotic Art
- Digital Fabrication Technologies
- Multimedia Performance
- Critical Media Studies, Media Art History and Theory
- Other forms of Code-Based Art or Computational Media
- Interdisciplinary Art Practice (e.g., computation with biology, material science, or environmental studies)
Candidate Qualifications
- Technology background: Doctoral degree and research excellence in computational media.
- Art practice background: Doctoral degree or prior academic appointment with media art exhibition record and experience advising postgraduates.
