About the School

The history of School of Life Sciences (SLiS) at Nanjing University can be traced back to the establishment of the Department of Agriculture at the University of Nanking in 1914, and the foundation of the Biology Department at Nanjing Advanced Teachers College (later known as National Southeast University) by Dr. Bing Zhi in 1921. We are the first Biology department among all Chinese universities and one of the country's oldest institutions for life science research and education.

Today, the school has five departments:

• Biology
• Biochemistry
• Ecology
• Physiology and Artificial Intelligence Biology
• Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences

It is home to three national talent-training bases:

• National Base for Talent Cultivation in Scientific Research and Teaching
• National Base for Talent Cultivation in Life Science and Technology
• National Exemplary Experimental Teaching Center in Life Sciences

It houses two national research platforms:

• State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
• National Resource Center for Mutant Mice

Other ministerial and provincial research centers include:

• Key Laboratory of Model Animals and Disease Research of MOE
• Engineering Research Center of Protein and Peptide Medicine of MOE
• Jiangsu Engineering Research Center for MicroRNA Biology and Biotechnology
• Nanjing University Institute of Biotechnology (approved by MOE)

The School has a high-quality faculty team with 73 professors and 34 associate professors. Among them:

Research teams include one Innovative Research Group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and two innovative teams under MOE’s Development Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Teams.

Biology is a national first-tier key discipline and has been selected as a national "Double First-Class" initiative discipline. Internationally, the School ranks top 1% in 8.5 subjects (ESI discipline ranking), including:

Innovative biotechnologies have been successfully applied to medicine and ecological governance. Awards since 2016 include:

• 1 Second Prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress Award (shared)
• 3 First Prizes for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award in Natural Science
• 3 First Prizes for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements Award in Technological Inventions
• 1 First Prize for Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award

About the Position

The Nanjing University School of Life Sciences is recruiting young scholars for a tenure-track associate professor position in the following field:

• Biochemistry and Immunology

Qualifications

• Commitment to academic teaching and research in compliance with laws and regulations
• High standards of professional conduct; no criminal or academic misconduct history
• Ph.D. in a closely related field with a strong academic background
• Experience in leading research institutions with proven academic excellence
• For Associate Professors: ideally at least four years of postdoctoral research experience
• Proven teaching ability and experience in core and advanced course delivery
• Strong communication skills and familiarity with modern teaching methodologies
• Demonstrated research excellence and international visibility
