About us

The Atom Manufacturing Institute of Nanjing University, located on the Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University, is a second-level entity research institution of Nanjing University, with a focus on physics. The institute is characterized by interdisciplinary, industry-research integration, demand-driven, and mechanism innovation. It has established an innovative research team dedicated to cutting-edge research on single atoms, atomic clusters, atomic layers, and atomic-level assembly, leveraging the traditional strengths of Nanjing University in physics, chemistry, material science, and electronics.

Three main research areas are focused on:

• Atomic clusters: Science-selected cluster beam and advanced processing technology.
• Atomic scale assembly: Atomically precise building blocks and advanced materials.
• Atomic scale electronic devices: Prototype devices design and advanced processing technology.

These research areas aim to explore development from atomic to micro, mesoscopic, and macro manufacturing, systematically building a theoretical system of atomic scale interactions, tackling fundamental key technologies for atomic-level manipulation, and ultimately developing disruptive and strategic products, processes, and equipment. The institute also plans to develop the "atom manufacturing" discipline and major scientific and technological infrastructure for atomic limit micromanufacturing (referred to as atom manufacturing equipment), striving to lead the development of atomic-level manufacturing technology both domestically and internationally. The goal is to lead the forefront of international science and technology, meet national needs, and serve the local economy of China and Jiangsu.

Job description

The Institute of Atom Manufacturing at Nanjing University is currently seeking to recruit top-tier scholars and exceptional talents in the field of atomic manufacturing and related interdisciplinary areas. Candidates should possess substantial academic and professional experience in single atoms, atomic clusters, atomic layers, and atomic-level assembly research. They should also demonstrate a strong commitment to applying fundamental disciplines to advanced manufacturing technology. The position is open rank (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, postdoctoral researcher, or full-time researcher). The research areas open for recruitment include:

• Atomic clusters: Science-selected cluster beams and advanced processing technology.
• Atomic scale assembly of atomically precise building blocks and advanced materials.
• Atomic scale electronic devices: Prototype devices design and advanced processing technology.

Requirements

The applicant should:

• Abide by the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, and have a passion for teaching and research.
• Abide by the ethics of teachers, uphold academic integrity, be willing to work diligently, and have no criminal record or record in breaching the ethics of teachers and/or academic integrity.
• Have an excellent academic background, particularly a PhD in the relevant discipline, study or work experience at a prestigious higher education institution, and knowledge of the latest international trends and developments in the relevant research field(s). For applicants for Assistant Professor: research experience for more than two years after receiving the doctoral degree. For applicants for Associate Professor: research experience for more than four years after receiving the doctoral degree (exceptional candidates with less experience may be considered).
• Have outstanding teaching skills. The applicant should be able to teach core and/or innovative courses in the corresponding discipline, with sound teaching methodologies and strong communication skills.
• Demonstrate outstanding research track records and potential. The applicant should have publications in his/her field of research, original ideas about the relevant fields, a clear vision for future research plans, and good potential for further academic development.

Remuneration

• An annual salary (to be worked out individually)

• The university provides short-term lodging and housing subsidies
• The university provides assistance with children’s schooling at primary and secondary school levels
• Especially excellent talents will be recommended to apply for the 'overseas excellent youth programme' or 'national excellent youth programme'
• Rolling recruitment (Interviews and evaluations will be organized in several batches depending on the number of actual applicants). If the number of applicants for a single post is small, it will be extended appropriately.
