Position Overview

The Innovation Hub Intern provides part-time operational, student-facing, and activity support for DKU’s Innovation Hub. The role helps maintain the Hub as a welcoming, safe, organized, and accessible makerspace for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The intern will support daily Hub operations, basic user assistance, event preparation, equipment and materials organization, documentation, and communication. This position is designed as a hands-on learning and support role. The intern is not expected to independently manage the Hub, lead major technical operations, or supervise high-risk equipment use without staff guidance.

Essential Duties

Daily Hub Support

  • Be present in the Innovation Hub during assigned shifts and serve as a friendly first point of contact for users.
  • Support basic daily operations, including user check-in, space readiness, room use, cleanliness, organization, and general inquiries.
  • Help users understand Hub rules, booking procedures, available resources, and basic space-use expectations.
  • Monitor the general condition of the Hub and report issues related to space, equipment, materials, or user behavior to staff.

Tools, Materials, and Space Organization

  • Assist with organizing, labeling, storing, and tracking tools, materials, consumables, and project supplies.
  • Support basic setup and cleanup for prototyping activities, workshops, open lab sessions, and student project work.
  • Help conduct simple checks of common tools, supplies, and work areas to ensure they remain ready for use.
  • Report missing items, damaged tools, low inventory, or maintenance needs to the Innovation Hub staff.

Student, Workshop, and Event Support

  • Provide basic guidance to students and users, including helping them locate materials, understand simple procedures, and connect with appropriate staff support.
  • Assist with Hub workshops, tours, showcases, open lab sessions, maker activities, and Innovation Hub events.
  • Support event logistics, including registration, materials preparation, participant guidance, photography, cleanup, and post-event organization.
  • Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages students from different backgrounds and disciplines to explore, collaborate, and make.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with routine administrative tasks for Hub workshops and activities, including registration lists, material preparation, participant records, feedback collection, and post-event documentation.
  • Support reimbursement-related work, including organizing receipts, collecting supporting materials, preparing reimbursement information, and tracking submission status under staff guidance.
  • Support basic communication and documentation needs, such as short event summaries, Hub updates, posters, WeChat/social media content, and internal records.
  • Perform other administrative and operational tasks assigned by the Innovation Hub Coordinator, Innovation Hub Assistant, or InE team.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registered student in good academic standing, or recent graduates holding admissions offer for further study.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and service orientation.
  • Interest in innovation, making, design, entrepreneurship, technology, media arts, engineering, or hands-on learning.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to support students and visitors patiently.
  • Basic familiarity with makerspace tools, 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, design software, photography, or event support is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and escalate issues appropriately.
  • English communication ability required; Chinese communication ability preferred.
