Research Fellow in Materials Science

Position Overview

The lab of bio-inspired smart materials is looking for a research fellow to work on the design and fabrication of the responsive materials or surfaces to achieve the special wettability.

Reports to

Prof. Weiwei Shi, Assistant Professor of Material Science

Essential Duties

• Work on the design and fabrication of materials & interfaces with special wettability, i.e., superhydrophobicity, superhydrophilicity, etc.
• Develop research objectives and projects; Conduct individual or collaborative research projects; Assess, interpret, and evaluate outcomes of research.
• Writing or contributing to publications or disseminating research findings.
• Mentor undergraduates with less experience, in developing their research techniques.
• Coordinate the work of colleagues to ensure equitable access to research resources and facilities.
• Deal with standard problems and help team members resolve their concerns about progress in research.
• Work toward achieving assigned annual objectives and KPIs, demonstrating accountability for performance and results.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or relevant majors. A nationally recognized authority in the subject area.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in a research position or a related setting to become familiar with hands-on experiments, wet-lab experience, and relevant instrument-operations.
• Experienced in the design and fabrication of materials & interfaces with special wettability, i.e., superhydrophobicity, superhydrophilicity, etc.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups.

Education

Master in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or relevant majors. A nationally recognized authority in the subject area.

Years of Related Working Experience

At least 1-2 years of experience in a research position or a related setting to become familiar with hands-on experiments, wet-lab experience, and relevant instrument-operations.
